Non oriented silicon steel coil is electrical steel used for magnetic components where flux direction varies within the sheet plane. Grade selection for motors and generators should account for specified loss test conditions, thickness, delivered condition and the lamination process.
Non oriented silicon steel coil is electrical steel used for magnetic components where flux direction varies within the sheet plane. Grade selection for motors and generators should account for specified loss test conditions, thickness, delivered condition and the lamination process.
Non oriented electrical steel is considered where magnetic flux does not remain aligned with one preferred rolling direction. It is widely associated with motor and generator laminations. The name describes a material family, not a complete purchasing specification: the exact grade, thickness, magnetic acceptance requirements and processing condition are still essential.
Loss values should always be read together with frequency, flux density and the specified test method. A value measured under one condition cannot be used as a direct guarantee at another. Motor speed, electrical frequency, core geometry and thermal requirements are design inputs. Select the approved grade using the relevant material data and the intended operating range.
Thickness is one of several variables influencing lamination design and processing. A thinner product is not automatically a suitable replacement for an existing specification, because tooling, stack construction, stiffness and magnetic properties may also change. Provide the drawing and grade requirements when discussing a different gauge or supply form.
Identify whether the required electrical steel is supplied in a fully processed condition or whether further processing forms part of the customer's production route. Where annealing is planned, specify the cycle and verify compatibility with the material and coating. Do not infer the delivered condition from a generic catalogue title or from surface appearance.
Coil width, inside diameter, outside diameter and mass should fit the unwinding and punching line. Edge condition, flatness and thickness consistency can affect feeding and tooling. Explain any restrictions imposed by the equipment and agree measurable tolerances. Trial material can help assess the complete process when changing a grade or production route.
The insulation coating is selected with the core construction and manufacturing process in mind. Specify the required system and any resistance, adhesion or heat-treatment compatibility criteria. Protect surfaces against avoidable scratches and contamination. Burrs and processing damage should be controlled according to the lamination and assembly requirements.
The items below define the requested supply. Numeric limits and available combinations should be confirmed for the chosen grade and order.
| Item | Specify with the Enquiry |
|---|---|
| Material | Non oriented electrical steel grade and standard |
| Magnetic properties | Loss and induction limits with test conditions and method |
| Gauge | Thickness and permitted variation |
| Coil width | Width, tolerance and edge condition |
| Delivered condition | Required processing condition and any subsequent annealing |
| Insulation | Coating designation and process compatibility |
| Coil format | Inside diameter, maximum outside diameter and mass |
| Inspection | Material records, dimensional checks and magnetic reporting |
Keep the coil number and grade linked to the production lot. When coils are slit or cut, preserve traceability in the resulting material. Receiving checks should include packaging, identity, dimensions and visible surface condition. Record any damage before the material enters the line.
Agree how the magnetic data will be reported and distinguish material test results from finished motor performance. Punching, joining, stacking and other operations can influence the finished component, so product-level acceptance may require a separate agreed evaluation.
Coils should be supported and secured for their dimensions and mass, with protection for edges and coated surfaces. Confirm coil eye orientation, package weight, labels and unloading requirements. The illustrated packing is an example of the product handling context; the actual shipment arrangement should be agreed for the order and route.
Store the material under suitable dry conditions and avoid handling that dents edges or damages the insulation. Maintain package and coil identification during storage. Check for condensation risks when moving wrapped coils between environments with different temperatures.
Do not substitute one electrical steel family for another without a design review. Their magnetic characteristics and application requirements differ.
Use the limit, frequency, flux density and test method required by the material standard or motor design. A loss number without those conditions is incomplete.
The required processing depends on the delivered condition, grade and manufacturing route. Confirm it for the actual material rather than applying a general rule.
Provide grade, standard, thickness, width, coating, coil dimensions, quantity and destination. Include magnetic acceptance requirements, the intended punching process and any planned heat treatment.
